The airport at Savusavu is to be upgraded in October 2007. The upgrade is scheduled to take approximately 6 weeks with flights being diverted to Labasa. Savusavu has developed rapidly over the past few years especially with the expansion of tourism and real estate sales in the area. Savusavu Airport is located just a 10 minute drive from the town of Savusavu. The airport has daily flights from Nadi, Suva, Labasa and Taveuni. Flight usually land from the south over the sea an reefs but can also come in from the north, flying over the Savusavu and the hills overlooking Savusavu. The airport has a small terminal located on the Hibiscus Highway and a recently paved runway. The airport has a Pacific Sun and AirFiji check in counter as well as a small place to by handicrafts. Make sure you check in 45 minutes before your flight.
